    Professional Growth Series: “How to Write a Great Reference Letter” presented by Dr. Kim Germain | Director, Undergraduate Research: As advisors, we get asked for references from students as part of our jobs, and sometimes we’re asked to write references for colleagues, like for Advising Awards. It’s easy to agree to write for someone, but how do you write a truly helpful reference? This session explores how to approach writing reference letters confidently, how to pitch them appropriately, and how to best support the person you’re writing for.

    Virtual Forum from The Chronicle of Higher Education/”Supporting Student Success: Staff and Roles”
    With the growing emphasis on student success, colleges are focusing on new advising programs and performance-tracking systems to attract students. However, the increase in student needs has impacted student-support staff on campus who experience burnout, leading to high turnover.
    A panel of experts, led by Ian Wilhelm, deputy managing editor of The Chronicle, will discuss strategies for preventing burnout in staff and creating a supportive environment.

    Professional Growth Series – Lunch & Learn
    “How to Prepare a for Professional Conference or Poster Presentation”: Panelists: Nathan Bambenek, LAS Senior Academic Advisor | Anya Cruz, Senior Pre-Health Advisor | Joseph Chambers, CBA Academic Advisor | Toni Jackson, Assistant Director for Residential Education 
    The panel will clarify and define a poster versus a full-conference presentation, give tips on building confidence to present, discuss the logistics and funding needed, and help process choosing a topic to present. The panelists will provide examples from their own experiences and answer questions from the audience. OAD will provide lunch from Pompei. Please RSVP accordingly so we can make sure we have the correct amount and choices available for the group.

    Networking and Social Event 
    Annual Christkindlmarket Holiday Outing – followed by Friday, Appreciation Beverages and Appetizers at Randolph Tavern 

    We will kick-off our annual holiday celebration with a walk around the Chriskindlemarket from 4:30-5:30pm…we will send specifics about meeting spot to those that RSVP. From there, we will take a 4 minute walk, just a block away, to The Randolph Tavern. OAD will provide appetizers and beverages for the group from 6:00-8:00pm.

    Feeling Festively Smart? Join us for Virtual Holiday Trivia and a chance to win a prize! 
    Join us virtually for a lunchtime social. Grab your lunch, click the Zoom link, and try your hand at some holiday trivia! We will be leading holiday trivia contest with the chance to win a cozy, warm prize! What time we don’t utilize for trivia – we will just socialize and eat lunch.
