Introduction
Professional development is a hallmark of great advising. The Office for Advising Development, in partnership with advising and success units on campus, provides opportunities for learning, interacting, career growth, and networking.
The OAD is committed to continually developing resources for advisors to optimize their work, enhance their skills, and contribute to their overall practice.
We are continuously developing orientation, training, and professional development programs and materials that will be announced and made available on this Web site during the course of the year.
Pro Dev
Request for Professional Development Grant
OAD is committed to providing and aiding in the professional development opportunities and experiences that enhance the growth of our UIC advising community members.
OAD has an allotted budget to support community members in the pursuit of professional development experiences. Please use the link below to request funding for professional development opportunities. Requests can be made at any time and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Responses will typically be issued within two weeks of a request.
In the case of conferences or special events that are in high demand or may include our entire community (e.g. ILACADA conference, etc…), we will provide a deadline for requests associated with the specific event, at which time we will analyze the requests and the associated funding allotted to maximize the distribution of support.

OAD Professional Development Giveaway 2025-2026!
Folks in the academic advising community can earn entries throughout the 2025-2026 AY by participating in OAD professional development activities. One lucky winner will receive an award to attend a conference of their choice (up to $2,500 towards registration, airfare, and hotel).
Advisors earn entries by attending eligible professional development events, workshops, trainings, or activities. The more you engage, the more chances to win!
Ongoing Events
- Each professional development activity will specify how many entries are awarded (typically 1–3 entries depending on length and engagement level)
- Events will be promoted with number of entries listed
Tracking Participation
- Attendance at every event will be tracked – advisors may be required to sign-in
- Entries will be tracked electronically by the program coordinator
- You can give your entries to another advisor, by informing oad@uic.edu in writing
Prize Details
- One winner will be drawn at random in August 2026… the award will have to be used in the 2026-27 academic year
- The winner will receive an award to attend a conference of their choice (up to $2,500)
- Includes: registration fees, airfare, and hotel
- Must be used within 12 months of award
