Tuesday, March 21st
Session: Having focused career conversations with students

Presenter(s): Career Leadership Council
Description: Building on the discussion from Advising Summit, the Career Leadership Council will deliver an interactive experience for attendees to gain firsthand knowledge of the career advising conversation. This presentation provides resources and tools to connect advisors to career development best practices.
Session: Student Success Lecture - Accelerate Your Success and Summer Session

Description: Undergraduate students’ enrollment in summer courses facilitates timely degree attainment, whether they are making up courses from a previous term or speeding up their time to degree. This Advisor Week-focused Lecture Series presentation will describe Summer Session benefits and logistics in general, with a special emphasis on the Accelerate Your Success program and another new summer initiative for academic recovery. Accelerate Your Success, which began in Summer 2018, offers undergraduates an opportunity to earn a scholarship up to $2300 toward summer tuition when enrolling in at least 5 credit hours in UIC’s Summer Session. Presenters will share outcome data on the Accelerate Your Success program, as well as plans for Summer 2023.

Session: TAC Transferology Training

Description: Attendees should join if you are interested in learning the in’s and outs of transferologylab. Please join us for a deep dive into transferology lab and how it is best used to guide our prospective transfer students. You need a current transferology lab account and plan to follow along on your computer throughout the presentation in case you have any questions. If you do not have a lab account, simply go to transferologylab.com and click the "Request Lab account" link.
Session: UIC Summer College: Creating Opportunities to Reinforce Success, Build Community, and Diminish the Achievement Gap

Description: Summer College is a collection of programs designed to enhance the incoming, first-year student’s experience. With two main objectives, Summer College is among the first programs that may influence a student’s academic journey before the start of the fall semester. Learn about Summer College, compelling data that demonstrate impact, and how academic advisors play a critical role in the recruitment and registration process.
Session: Tips for finding your Zen

Description: This quick half hour session will guide you back to your inner peace. You will utilize guided techniques from the instructor, utilizing your chair, and surroundings to relax and reset. The practice will give you tools to utilize in your office for fining your inner Zen.

Description: Start your morning with us on the Wellbeing Bus for this event touring some of our health and well-being spaces. We will provide some morning sustenance and start our day with our Health and Well-being partners as a great follow up to Advising Summit!
Session: Advisor Conference - Navigating Math Placement

Description: Mathematics placement testing through ALEKS on UIC's campus can be a challenge to navigate. With the help of new videos showcasing the student experience, this presentation will answer questions advisors may have regarding placement, additional attempts, and recommendations for students. Additionally, the presenter will show syllabi and grade breakdowns to help advisors when working with students on mathematics and statistics courses at UIC.
Session: Advisor Conference - Dissecting Student Success: Anatomy and Physiology at UIC

Description: In this presentation, attendees will get an overview of anatomy and physiology at UIC, a course required for most pre-health professions. From how the course is structured (hint: don’t believe what you see in XE Registration!), benefits and skills our students walk away with, to strategies for helping students succeed in the course, we hope to provide you with all the tools you need to successfully advise students thinking about taking the course and support those currently enrolled.

Description: Our lunch-time roundtable discussions are going to be on an exciting range of topics and we hope you can join us! Session: Advisor Conference - Ask a Recruiter: Bridging the Gap Between Recruitment and Advising

Description: Exploring the role that recruiters and admissions advisors play in the process of applying to and enrolling at UIC via a panel session. Panel members will share experiences and discuss answers to a series of real world questions in an open format.
Session: Advisor Conference - International Student Advising

Description: As undergraduate international populations continue to grow at UIC, this session will address an international student cycle from before they arrive to the university to their first semester experience. By the end of the session, participants can expect to: 1) have a greater awareness of language use when advising a student, 2) the initial expectation of the student’s advisor relationship, 3) share best practices for advising international students.

Description: Discover how to integrate high-impact practices to develop students in experiential learning experiences. Utilizing research on our UIC students, this session will explore how High Impact Student Engagement looks on our campus for our students and the unique roles advisors play in high impact engagement for UIC students.
NETWORKING EVENT AT HAWKEYE’S BEGINS AFTER ADVISOR CONFERENCE
4:00 pm Hawkeye’s - End the day, with socializing, snacks, and sips! We will provide food and beverages at Hawkeye's on Taylor St. at the conclusion of Advisor Conference. Joey will provide some transportation in her "Little Red Wagon" aka her red Nissan Versa to and from, should it be needed. There is also a free parking lot for Hawkeye's at the corner of Laflin and Fillmore Streets.

Session: Start Your Day with Coffee and a Reading

Description: We’re starting our day with learning together with a common reading on well-being and mental health. Our own well-being in the workplace is significantly important and reading together, gathering together and learning together is a strength of our advising community.

Description: Teri Farr, current President of NACADA and Charlie Nutt will be joining us for this incredibly special opportunity to learn together with them and expand our work on our advising practice using the framework of the NACADA Core Competencies. We’re incredibly excited about this opportunity and the special visit from advising leaders who have contributed so much to our profession. Our UIC advising community is truly special and we will work in an interactive way with Teri and Charlie. Teri is a part of our U of I System family and advises as University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Description: Teri and Charlie will be joining us for lunch, and after enjoying time having lunch and continuing our conversations from our workshop, we get a SECOND presentation from Teri and Charlie about how to become more involved as an advisor in NACADA, etc. We will also have some surprises for you if you can join us (hint, hint…this might be your advisor gifts…).

Description: Add the spark to a child in need: come assist in creating and assembling coping bags and blankets for children in the pediatric unit at UI Health. We couldn’t think of a better way to end our formal Advisor Week activities than service and we hope you can join us.
