SHARE WITH STUDENTS: This week’s U and I Care Fact – Depression

Depression

Remember, getting help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

  • Similar to national trends in recent years, one of the most common concerns self-reported by students presenting at UIC's Counseling Center is depression.
  • You may be experiencing irritability, difficulty concentrating, sleep and appetite changes, and feelings of hopelessness.
  • You are not alone. Treatment exists in the form of therapy and medication. You can start with a brief screening to determine if you should seek help.
  • If you can, try to exercise and find someone to talk to.
  • UIC Counseling Center can be a great place to start.
