SHARE WITH STUDENTS: U of I Tolerance Means Dialogues and scholarship opportunity!
We are writing today about an exciting event we are having at UoI: Tolerance Means Dialogues and scholarship opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students. Students at all campuses are eligible to compete for the Tolerance Scholarship and to attend. Winners take center stage in the Dialogue.
I would be immensely grateful for help getting the word out to University of Illinois Chicago students and faculty. Below is an invitation to the Constitution Day Tolerance Means Dialogue on September 17, 2018 at 7 PM at the Lincoln Hall Theater in Urbana, Illinois on the question of: Religious Liberty and the Culture War Over LGBT Rights: Can University Students Make a Difference? Along with hopefully joining us at the event, we are hoping that you might be willing to spread word of the event and the corresponding $750 scholarship opportunity to your colleagues and students on campus.
The Tolerance Means Dialogues engage people of different perspectives to find solutions to problems at the intersection of faith, sexuality, and families. You can read more about the project here: www.tolerancemeans.com.
As a part of each Dialogue, undergraduate and graduate students compete for two $750 Tolerance Scholarships by submitting a 500-word essay on what tolerance means to them. This is an excellent opportunity for Millennials, who have grown up with unprecedented diversity, to add their voices and ideas for solutions to the public debate. Prior winners have gone on to Yale Law School and other great things. You can read about past winners in Forbes, here.

The winning essayists take center stage at the Dialogue and present alongside the experts who act as catalysts for the Dialogue. The event will feature Dialogue Catalysts Shannon Minter, Legal Director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Robin Fretwell Wilson, University of Illinois College of Law. The event will be moderated by Gretchen Winter, University of Illinois Gies College of Business. Chancellor Robert Jones will open the Dialogue with brief remarks.
All students who attend the Dialogue can join in the discussion by tweeting questions and comments to @ToleranceMeans. One student will be randomly selected to receive a Social Engagement Prize of $250 for adding to the Dialogue.
