FirstGen Flames Abroad Scholarship
Chancellor Michael Amiridis has graciously supported the launch of a new scholarship to encourage first-generation, first-year students to study abroad. The Chancellor’s FirstGen Flames Abroad Scholarship is designed to award first-year students with high potential whose parent(s) did not complete a bachelor’s degree with a scholarship to study abroad. After submitting an application, students will be notified during their first year at UIC if they have earned the scholarship and will have the remainder of their time at UIC to use the scholarship towards the costs of an approved UIC faculty-directed or exchange program. The SAO kindly requests your help in tapping first-generation college students who would be strong candidates for this opportunity and encouraging them to apply. Please let students who you think would be a good candidate know about this opportunity and that you support them in pursuing it! We have created a media kit with resources for promoting the scholarship.
Applications are now open for Spring 2021! Students can apply on UIC Snap by April 15th!
Advisors can find an indicator in iAdvise in the "Notes" area for students who are eligible for this scholarship.
Pop-Up Study Abroad Advising Series
The Pop-Up Study Abroad Advising Series is a student-led program in partnership with the Study Abroad Office and various student support units on campus. It is designed to help students learn about studying abroad on a more personal level. During the open advising sessions, students will learn about study abroad from UIC peer advisors who recently went abroad. Additionally, an advisor from the Study Abroad Office and designated support unit will be available for inter-departmental guidance.
Students should come with all their questions about funding, locations and programs, and about the academic, professional, and personal benefit studying abroad offers.
