SHARE WITH STUDENTS: LAS Mandatory Transfer/Readmit Advising
The LAS Academic Advising Center is excited to inform all campus advisors of new Mandatory Transfer/Readmit Advising for new Spring 2019 LAS transfer and readmit students. In an effort to help this important portion of our student population connect more quickly with their academic advisors, all new Spring 2019 transfer and readmit students be required to complete an academic advising appointment with either their assigned/cohort advisor, or their major advisor (either declared major, or intended major) – whichever they think will be most advantageous to them!
Intended outcomes for students are the following:
- To ensure they’re registered for appropriate classes,
- To confirm they understand how their prior coursework transferred in to UIC,
- To inform them of the many resources available on campus, via LAS, and/or in their academic department to aid in their success, and…
- Much, much more!
Additional important notes:
- Students schedule advising appointments with their assigned/cohort advisor via the LAS advising portal (student.las.uic.edu). Advising appointments with major advisors (aside from those in the Department of Math, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS), and those pursuing a “Teaching of” program) are also scheduled via the LAS advising portal (student.las.uic.edu). MSCS students and “Teaching of” students should be referred to those advisors directly (see: las.uic.edu/advising/major-minor-advising).
- Holds will not be lifted until students have completed an academic advising appointment, as described above.
- New Spring 2019 LAS transfer and readmit students were notified of this required advising via their UIC email from LASadvising@uic.edu on Friday, February 1st, and may have also been notified via email from their assigned/cohort advisor, and/or their departmental advisor(s), if declared in a major.
Please contact Sandi Hall (sdhall@uic.edu) if you have any questions. Thank you, in advance, for your support of this effort!
