SHARE WITH STUDENTS: Engaged Humanities Initiative – HUM 201 and EHI in Fall 2020

The Engaged Humanities Initiative is a Mellon-funded program to support undergraduate research in the humanities.

This fall, the EHI will offer two HUM 201 courses: 

  1. The "Beloved Community:" The Classroom in the Building of the World House taught by Professor Johari Jabir on Wednesdays from 3-5:30PM.
  2. Border Crossings: Narratives of Displacement and Belonging taught by Professor Laura Hostetler on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11AM-12:15PM.

EHI Courses. Each year, new courses are offered for students to select from. Faculty from across the university develop and teach these courses just for the EHI! EHI courses are designed to expose and introduce students to the humanities and the different tools you can use to better understand the world around you.

A few friendly reminders:

  • Students who enroll in HUM 201 are eligible to receive up to $1000 in funding for completing humanities activities.
  • HUM 201 is open to any student who has completed ENG 161; however, students graduating in December 2020 or May 2021 will be put on a waitlist until August.
  • Students have the option to continue in the EHI and conduct humanities research in the summer (under the guidance of a faculty mentor) and receive up to $3500.
  •  Students gain access to a community of faculty, graduate students, and peers who share a passion for humanities research and are interested in applying humanities concepts and ideas to solve real-world problems.
