SHARE WITH STUDENTS: Engaged Humanities (HUM 201): Exciting fall opportunity for students!

Please share this information and your downloadable flyer on EHI with your students:

Are you interested in the connections between the campus and the community? Do you want to explore how your studies can make a difference in the world? Consider joining the Engaged Humanities Initiative by enrolling in HUM 201 in the fall of 2020! The EHI is open to all! If you've completed ENG 161 and aren't graduating until 2022 or after, you can join. You don't need to be a humanities major. We'll help you find a mentor and develop a research proposal if you decide to continue beyond next year.

This fall, the EHI will offer two HUM 201 courses:

  1. The "Beloved Community:" The Classroom in the Building of the World House taught by Professor Johari Jabir on Wednesdays from 3-5:30PM.
  2. Border Crossings: Narratives of Displacement and Belonging taught by Professor Laura Hostetler on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11AM-12:15PM.

To read course descriptions, please review the attached flyer.

  • All students who enroll in HUM 201 are eligible to receive up to$1000 in funding for attending humanities-related activities and events (on campus and off!) during AY 2020-2021.
  • Students have the option to continue in the EHI and conduct humanities research in the summer (under the guidance of a faculty mentor) and receive up to $3500 in summer 2021 AND again in summer 2022 if they are still UIC students.
  • Students gain access to a community of faculty, graduate students, and peers who share a passion for humanities research and are interested in applying humanities concepts and ideas to solve real-world problems.
  • To learn more about what students do in the EHI and additional funding opportunities, review the website: https://ehi.uic.edu/what-students-do-in-the-ehi/

To sign up, email ehi@uic.edu or fill out this form (you can also access the form in the attached flyer): https://forms.uofi.uic.edu/sec/3031476 (you can't register for HUM 201 directly, but we'll clear your UIN once we receive the form).
