AH 252 "Baroque Art and Architecture"

This course will take up highlights of painting, sculpture, architecture and city planning from late-16th century Rome to the early 18th century in Paris and London. The aim is to survey the major trends and artistic innovation in Western Europe. Lectures,  discussions and readings will track influential episodes, new conceptual ideas, and the interests of those who commissioned artists’ work. The course seeks to foster critical skills in visual analysis, and close readings of art historical texts.
