SHARE WITH STUDENTS: Academic Advising for the Department of Math, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS)

For the time being, advising for students interested in and/or pursuing academic programs – aside from Teaching of Math (see below) – within the Department of Math, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) is being facilitated by Dr. Shokouh Pourarian and Dr. Ramin Takloo-Bighash.

Students interested in and/or pursuing Teaching of Math should be directed to email Dr. Mara Martinez (maravmar@uic.edu). If these students make their way to either Shokouh or Ramin, they’ll be redirected to Mara.

Shokouh and Ramin’s availability:

  • Drop-ins/appointments:
    • Both Shokouh and Ramin are holding drop-in hours via Zoom (see below), where students can sign-in and then join a one-on-one when Shokouh/Ramin are available. Shokouh/Ramin are be able to answer most student questions quickly in this format. If the student has more questions or if their situation is more complicated than can be covered in a drop-in, Shokouh/Ramin will either follow-up via email or schedule a 30 minute appointment with the student for another time.
    • Email:
      • If students want to email with advising-related questions, and/or aren’t available when Shokouh/Ramin are available for drop-in advising, they should be directed to email dus@math.uic.edu.
      • Please don’t direct students to email Shokouh or Ramin directly; they’ll receive a quicker response if they email dus@math.uic.edu.
