PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: UIC Online Events Accessibility Guide Now Available!
The Disability Resource Center and the Disability Cultural Center have partnered to create this resource for those organizing events at UIC. Focusing on virtual events, this guide offers a consolidated resource for event planners as they facilitate accommodations, and it details ways to build accessibility into events from the start.
This guide covers:
- Planning
- Publicity
- Responding to Access Requests
- Setting Up ASL/CART in Online Platforms
- Facilitating Events for Accessibility
- Access Practices for Events of All Sizes
When event organizers anticipate a range of bodies and minds and design their events for access, our programs and campus spaces become more inclusive and just. Accessibility works best when it is an active, ongoing process, and we hope these practical tips will support efforts to make UIC online events more accessible for everyone, and particularly for individuals with disabilities.
The guide is available at the link above, a go.uic.edu/AccessibleOnlineEvents, and will be linked at the DRC and DCC websites.
