PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: This week’s iAdvise News and Tip – effective biographies and general overviews!
Here's this week's tip from the iAdvise Project Team on effective Institutional Profiles:
- For those daily users of iAdvise who are visible to students for online scheduling or to be contacted online, your biography and overview are very important to introduce you to students, provide necessary information about you, and give them a sense of what they should expect in their interactions with you. Here are some tips for an effective institutional profile:
- Being clear and concise is key! A few key sentences - think of it as your written elevator speech about your role with students and what you do!
- Remember, students are often more comfortable if they know something about you - if your unit provides specific guidelines for information to include in your biography, follow that guidance. For others, consider sharing something about your educational background, your work experience, or your advising philosophy or approach.
