OAD has a new Advising Fellowship Program - Apply to be an OAD Advising Fellow!
The Office for Advising Development is sponsoring an Advising Fellows program for advisors and coaches at UIC to participate in part-time project work as an overcompensation or buyout (as applicable).
Goals of the Advising Fellows Program:
- Advancing the application of advising and coaching practitioner knowledge and experience to student success focused projects;
- Advancing their professional development experience in project coordination and management for advisors and coaches;
- Knowledge development and project advancement including the development of trainings and professional development workshops in student success interventions or practices;
Advising Fellows will work on specific student success projects for the time specified for each project with the target goals of the Office for Advising Development as part of the overall goals of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Academic Programs.
For the academic years of 2021 – 2023, the focus is on the intersection of financial aspects of student life and advising students for academic success. The two projects Advising Fellows can apply to work on are:
- Satisfactory Academic Progress Interventions – Fall-to-Spring Calculator Interventions and SAP Interventions Specialist Development
- Funding Programs –Accelerate Your Success Program
Advising Fellows Responsibilities and Expectations:
Advising Fellows positions are designed to be 4 – 6 hours of work per week working under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost for Advising Development, and are designed to be flexible project-based work organized in partnership with the Assistant Vice Provost.
Project deliverables will be dependent upon the specific project in which the Fellow is working, but specific timelines and goals will be set out to achieve goals for the year.
Advising Fellows Qualifications:
Advising Fellows must be currently employed as an advisor or coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago;
Advising Fellows must have at least six months experience at UIC in a student-facing role;
Advising Fellows must have approval from their direct supervisor and unit head to participate;
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal Advising Fellow has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is self-motivated, and has excellent organizational skills. The candidate is knowledgeable about advising and coaching best practices and the values and competencies from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and is able to articulate application of those values and competencies in advising and coaching.
