PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: LCLC UIC Language Map for staff, students, faculty and you!

There are two wonderful ongoing projects from the Language and Culture Learning Center that we want to call your attention to as members of the advising community:

1)  LCLC UIC Language Map:

It was recently Mother Language Day and you can help celebrate the linguistic richness of the UIC community by contributing your own language experience to the LCLC Language Map.

What language(S) do you and your UIC friends speak, understand, dream in, learn?

To put yourself on the map, click here (no personal information is collected), and choose the language(S) that are part of your life.

To see the map, and the many languages that students, faculty, and staff speak, understand, dream in, are learning now:  LCLC Language Map.

The map will continually update, so visit often to see it grow across the globe.

Encourage anyone in the UIC community to contribute to the map by sending them this link.

Interested in how languages at UIC may have changed in the last 4 years?  Take a look at the 2017 LCLC Language Map.

We aim to get even more people to respond in 2021, so please share the link to contribute widely with UIC students, faculty, and staff!

Questions?  Contact lclc@uic.edu and visit the Language and Culture Learning Center.

2)  My UIC Language StorieS:  everyone in the UIC community (students, faculty, staff, alumni) is invited to write a little about how language is important in their life.  So many of us are bilingual, trilingual, and more--we speak one language at home, another at school, we're learning the language our grandparents spoke, or learning a language of a place we dream of visiting or connecting with.  Some of us speak lost languages, or Klingon or Dothraki.  Show your pride in your languages by sharing your story in a few sentences or a few paragraphs.

Read others' stories and submit your own at My UIC Language StorieS.
