PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: ILACADA News and extension of deadline for ILACADA Conference Proposals (7/30) and awards!

Have you been wondering how you may engage in professional development and serve your state? I am sure this query is on everyone’s mind, but rest assured we have the answer for you!  Please review the opportunities below to gain more experience and continue to partner with ILACADA:

  1. Nominate yourself or a colleague to join the ILACADA Executive Board!
  2. Nominate yourself or a colleague for the Advisor and Advising Administrator Awards!
  3. Present at the ILACADA Annual Conference!

ILACADA Executive Board

It is time for the ILACADA Executive Board Elections. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to serve your state and the profession of advising. By becoming an Executive Board member you will have the opportunity to help lead the way for Higher Education Advisors in the state of Illinois. Taking on leadership volunteer roles supports your professional growth and looks great on a resume!

Below you will find descriptions of all open Board positions. You may nominate yourself or someone else for these positions. Please note if you are nominating someone else they will have to accept the nomination prior to being put on the ballot.

  1. Vice President/President Elect:  The VP/Pres elect holds a one-year term as Vice President/President Elect, one-year as President, and one-year as Past President. As Vice President/President Elect, she or he will act as President in the absence of the President.
  2. Secretary: The Secretary holds a two-year term and will keep records of all meetings. The Secretary is also required to draft, maintain and interpret the constitution and by-laws of ILACADA, and is responsible for submitting to the membership any drafts or final versions of the constitution or its amendments.
  3. Treasurer: The Treasurer holds a two-year term, has custody of all ILACADA funds and shall maintain such deposits in a federally insured depository institution approved by the Executive Board and Officers. The Treasurer shall also maintain a register accounting for all receipts and disbursements and provide year to date and annual reports at Executive Board meetings. The fiscal year will be from August 1st through July 31st. The Treasurer will be a member of the Membership Committee.
  4. Awards, Scholarships, and Grants Committee Chair: Responsible for developing selection criteria and distribution of any awards, scholarship, and grants established by ILACADA. Holds a one year term.
  5. Communications Committee Chair: Responsible for all communications and promotion of the organization. It will work with the Webmaster to support the website, disseminate electronic newsletters, social networking, blogging, news and press releases. Holds a one year term.
  6. Membership/Elections Committee Chair: Membership committee and Elections committee shall be merged to form one committee. This committee is responsible for maintaining an accurate database of all ILACADA members. In addition, it will notify members when membership applications and dues are up for renewal and they will also encourage and solicit members. The committee is responsible for announcing and conducting elections. They are also responsible for notifying members of election status, eligibility, and results. The Treasurer shall be a member of this committee. Holds a one year term.
  7. Professional Development Chair: Responsible for coordinating workshops, and educational events on behalf of the membership. The Professional Development committee will also collaborate with like- minded state organizations (Also assists the conference planning committees for ILACADA conferences). Holds a one year term.

ILACADA Advisor and Advising Administrator Awards

We have extended the deadline to self-nominate/nominate folks for the ILACADA Advisor and Advising Administrator Awards! The purpose of these awards is to recognize and celebrate an outstanding advisor and advising administrator on college campuses throughout the State of Illinois.  The chosen individuals will receive paid registration plus funding, up to $150 (reimbursed), to support their attendance at the annual ILACADA conference. The theme for this year’s conference is “Let the Magic of Advising Begin.”  Submissions on any and all topics are welcome, but topics focused on the conference theme are preferred.
