PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: iAdvise News and Tips – Looking for your new first-year students – filter for them!
The iAdvise Project Team has a tip or you:
Looking to get a contact list for your first-year students? You can filter for your first-year students!
You can filter for quite a bit of information in iAdvise including students of different types - at this time of year, it can be helpful to get a list of the first-year students you are working with...
To filter for first-year students prior to the tenth day, you can do the following:
- Go to your Students Menu;
- Make sure you have the connections you need - for assigned advisees you will need to be in Primary Advisor, for success units ensure you are using your role where students are associated to you; or if you're administrator make sure to pick your college or unit role;
- Click "Add Filter";
- Got to the "Attributes" section;
- Click "Add Attribute" and select "Student Type" under "Attribute";
- In Value - select "Specific Value";
- In the text box enter *Freshman* - don't forget that the asterisk (*) is a wildcard and putting it in front and in back of the word will get you any combination of words that include Freshman
- You've now selected the first-year student type, but you want to make sure that you're getting this year's new students...
- Now select an additional "Attribute" and add "First Term";
- In the Value section, select "Specific Value" and add 220218 for the term;
- Press Submit and you should get your list of this Fall 2021 first-year students.
After the 10th day of the term, it's gets easier to filter - you can filter for only one "Attribute" - select "Banner Cohort" and make a specific value "220218FRSH". Banner cohorts get added to iAdvise after the 10th day of the term.
