PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Fall 2018 Advising Summit Presentation and Documents available!

Our Fall 2018 Advising Summit was held on October 5, 2018 and featured a range of information for advisors including a new International Internships initiative, an introduction to the new NACADA Core Competencies, information on the UIC recruitment and enrollment landscape, and information and case studies on advising Asian American students.

Thank you so very much to our presenters and to you for spending the afternoon learning with us! The agendas, presentations, and materials from our speakers can be downloaded below and will be available next week on advising.uic.edu:

Summit Agenda

International Internships (Melissa Martinez, Diplomat-in-Residence and Neal McCrillis, Global Engagement)
UIC Recruitment and Enrollment Landscape (Oscar Rodriguez, Academic and Enrollment Services)

NACADA Core Competencies Model and Personal Assessment (Josephine Volpe, OAD)

Advising Asian American Students (Cori Kodama and Hideaki Noguchi)

In addition to the presentation slides and reports above, there are handouts provided by NACADA on the Core Values and Core Competencies. Based upon our conversation at Summit, will be hosting a workshop on developing a personal philosophy of advising and OAD Steering Committee will be in touch very soon about that event. We will also send along a survey to see how OAD can support your competencies development so watch for that to come soon as well!

We had a great time at our Fall Colors Networking event post-Summit and we're looking forward to Advisor Week.

If you attended Summit, we want to hear from you. Your feedback is valuable, so please complete a survey for our planning team at http://go.uic.edu/advisingsummitfeedback.

If you did not get a copy of the NACADA Core Competencies guide, please contact Joey at jvolpe@uic.edu.
