Reporting to the Director of the Disability Resource Center, the Disability Services Specialist must be an individual that is invested in compliance, social justice, equity, and inclusiveness. The desired candidate will advise new and continuing students on disability resources and accommodations and facilitate accommodations and other disability related services under Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act. The candidate must be able to support the primary functions of the department including intakes, requests for accommodations, academic and retention support, and training and development of faculty, staff and students related to compliance, inclusiveness and maintaining a barrier free environment.

At minimum, the qualified candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Disability Studies, Social Services or related field; a focus on disability is preferred and possess a minimum of two years’ of experience working directly with adults with disabilities required. The candidate must have knowledge of federal and state laws related to providing disability accommodations in compliance with Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act. The candidate must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical, organizational and Microsoft Office skills.
