The UIC Black History Month 2021 Student Planning Committee welcomes students, faculty, and staff to partake in this year’s virtual recognition of Black History Month.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by Africans and African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of Black people in U.S. history. In recognition, several campus events have been scheduled by the University of Illinois at Chicago. This year’s theme is “Preserve the Culture.”

Preserve the Culture is an ode to Black ingenuity and brilliance. Black people have been innovators, creators, and originators in all spheres and sectors, and this month has been themed to honor that. From antiquity to present day, our legacy is defined by our culture, and carried out by our community. Black History Month 2021: Preserve the Culture will do just that.

Message from CCSB - Black History Makers - celebrate them on February 22nd

The Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Blacks (CCSB) is an advisory body dedicated to promoting the academic, professional, cultural, and social welfare of the Black community. CCSB is charged with providing leadership on the history, needs, and resources of the stated population at the University of Illinois Chicago. To do this, the subcommittees within CCSB focus on the multiple facets of UIC life that affect Black faculty, staff, and students, such as how we're being represented, climate, policies, services, and practices. CCSB makes recommendations to the Chancellor addressing these issues and developing, initiating, and managing programs that further address the Black community's comprehensive concerns. CCSB is enthusiastic about working collaboratively with diverse communities on campus and building relationships with off-campus Black community organizations to help develop and maintain a supportive environment for all members of the university's diverse population.

Every year during Black History Month, the CCSB recognizes UIC's Black History Makers. The CCSB Black History Makers are UIC African American students, faculty, and staff contributing to our Black/African American campus community.
