PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Advisor Week is coming 3/21 – 3/25 – save time on your calendars!

We have new updates about our amazing Advisor Week plans....see below for additional events to save time for during Advisor Week!

It's coming!!!!! Our 10th Annual Advisor Week - we've made it to the double digit anniversary of the BEST WEEK of the year! With 14+ events being planned, we want you to save time on your calendars for Advisor Week - here's some updates and highlights and a full schedule will be distributed very soon! Currently, we'll focus on some of our events for the first few days of the week so you can save time on your calendars, but we recommend saving time for both morning and afternoon events that will include next installments of our UIC Advisor Health and Wellness series, and two special events in our UIC Advisor Expert series. ..

Monday, March 21st: The week kicks off with some open unit-based activity time on Monday morning as we ramp up our activities. Our kickoff event of Advisor Week is traditionally our Student Success Lecture, which will be held from 2:00 - 3:30 pm - so save time on your calendars for this lecture that is focused on the results and what we've learned from two important surveys that students complete - the first-year and transfer student surveys for incoming students and the recent COVID-19 surveys. It's is always a pleasure to work with Office for Research on Student Success (ORSS).

Following the Student Success Lecture, we're planning one of our first "take a break"  fun networking events starting at 4:00 pm - we've switched things up a bit to accommodate advisors' on campus schedules so we will be hosting time with Creativita on Monday afternoon as our first in-person event. We'll be sending along those details to you soon...so if you're on campus on Mondays and are ready to do some creative work with us (ceramic painting potentially....there's just so many options we're having some trouble deciding)....save time starting around 4:00 pm until we're done... (Don't you worry if you're not on campus on Mondays, we are also hosting Creativita in-person on Thursday afternoon.)

Tuesday, March 22nd: The second day of Advisor Week kicks off with our first installment of the UIC Advisor Expert series with a presentation and discussion focused on equity and inclusion from our UIC Pre-Health Advising Office leaders starting at 9:00 am and running until 10:30 am. We're very excited to feature this event, which will be followed later in the week with a lunch-time screening and discussion of Black Men in White Coats.

We'll take a break for lunch time and then return for an early afternoon event with a new member of our UIC team on campus who serves in a very important role for students who are pregnant and may need postpartum accommodations - Matthew Walsh! Matt is the Title IX Coordinator who works with pregnant students, faculty, and staff who may need accommodations. We want to ensure that Matt has a chance to talk with advisors about the options available to students, processes for referral, etc. Tuesday, March 22nd from 1:30 - 2:30 Matt will be hosting a presentation and discussion in-person. Matt has also agreed to host the same event on Zoom later in the week for those who many not be able to come in-person or who are not available at that time. (Matt's Thursday program is currently slated for 3:00 - 4:00 pm.)

After an hour long break to catch up on things non-Advisor Week, we want you to join us for our first Zoom networking event of the week! We want to make sure all folks can engage in a variety of ways, so we're going to do a networking event on Zoom which just might include some fun activities like what we did at Advising Summit....and much, much more. Watch for more details on that - but SAVE TIME starting at 3:30 pm on March 22nd for this online event.

Watch for the full schedule coming soon - it will include creative, fun events, networking events to engage with each other, and opportunities for learning together. We've got so much planned, we'll keep sending updates this week and  then the RSVP!

We're currently planning on running a hybrid model for Advisor Week events with a number of events, especially networking and "take a break" events, in person throughout the week to accommodate varying on-campus schedules for advisors, with a number of events being held on Zoom, especially also for those who may be attending NASPA to be able to participate in our learning together while benefitting from the national conference....that way our advising community members don't miss out on either experience!
