The Honors College at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks highly qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Honors Academic Advising and Program Specialist. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean, the Honors Academic Advising and Program Specialist is a full-time 12-month academic professional position. The Honors Academic Advising and Program Specialist guides Honors College students to ensure their success in completion of their baccalaureate degrees and in preparation for their post baccalaureate education and/or employment search.
Duties: Teaches Honors development classes and providing direct instructional support and academic/career planning and counseling to Honors students. Guides Honors College students with the development of their academic and life goals, to ensure their success in completion of their baccalaureate degrees and in preparation for their post baccalaureate education and/or employment search. Practices holistic advising involving expertise in (a) academic advising theories and student development theories, (b) all program requirements in all UIC degree-granting colleges, (c) specific knowledge of UIC Honors requirements and programs and national Honors best practices. Independently develops and implements Honors academic and student affairs programs, involving outreach to internal and external constituencies including alumni, high schools, and community agencies. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in advising students. Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills. Excellent independent judgment and decision-making skills. Knowledge of basic information systems (Word, Excel).
