FOR ADVISORS’ INFORMATION: Summer 2021 Study Abroad Update
The Study Abroad Office (SAO) originally set March 12th as the decision date for determining whether or not Summer 2021 study abroad could resume. In consultation with the Vice Provost for Global Engagement and Provost Posner, we are announcing the cancellation of Summer 2021 study abroad programs at this time. This decision is not made lightly as we are eager to return to our mission of sending students abroad. However, we do not anticipate significant improvements of the global pandemic situation happening between now and March 12th and know many students might like to proceed with making more assured summer plans.
While we know this is a disappointing announcement, we hope our stakeholders understand the rationale. Hopefully with the continued rollout of vaccinations, conditions will improve to allow us to begin sending students abroad before too much longer. We have set May 28th as the decision date for Fall 2021 programs.
In the meantime, our advisors are available to meet with students who are interested in planning for a future semester/term abroad. We also have new virtual international opportunities available should students still be interested in obtaining intercultural experience over the summer. Please find these opportunities on our website here and contact sao@uic.edu if students are interested in learning more.
Thanks for your continued support of UIC study abroad.
Sincerely,
Kyle Rausch, EdD
