FOR ADVISORS’ INFORMATION: Placement Testing System for Spring 2024 is now live!

Placement Testing is now live - updated PEP Handbook is in the my.UIC portal on the Advising Tab!

The Placement Testing system is now live for Spring 2024 incoming and continuing students.  The 2024 PEP document is now available in my.uic.edu.  To summarize the changes for this year with references to where they can be found in the new, updated PEP Handbook:

  1. Polish, Latin, and Korean now have an interview placement. The Banner 05 code will be used.

 

  1. Spanish Heritage added ten questions and did some modifications.

 

  1. Spanish Heritage has a new 08 placement code for Essay cannot be evaluated. See page 30 in PEP document for exact wording.

 

  1. Spanish BLP modified some questions.

 

  1. Spanish retake process was changed to accommodate students.

 

  1. Russian updated some questions.

 

  1. The Computer Science test being reviewed placement code will change from 30 to 00. This is to accommodate downstream processing. You will see both codes this year depending upon when the test was taken.

 

  1. Physics updated test questions.

 

  1. Arabic has revised the entire test. The scoring method was changed.  Please refer to page 25 in the PEP document.

 

  1. English added a set of preliminary questions to handle test scores, UIC dual credit and college credit. Students will answer questions and based on the answers, they will either take the test or a placement code of 07 will be in Banner.  Some key points:

 

  1. Student exemptions will still be processed for test scores received.

 

  1. Question information starts on page 21 of the PEP document.

 

  1. Scoring information is on page 33 of the PEP document.

 

  1. This process will decrease the questions and back and forth that have occurred with test scores and college credit for incoming first year students.

 

  1. The test approval process now includes courses already taken. Students are not allowed to retake a placement test if they completed the course.  A warning will be displayed to the approvers if a student completed a course based on rules.  This process does not include students registered at the time the request is submitted.

 

  1. A Placement Test Availability section has been added to the PEP document. See page 4.
