FOR ADVISORS’ INFORMATION: New UIC “When You Are Ready” Resource Booklet to support students experiencing sexual assault is available.
Dear Campus Partners,
With the start of the school year, every resource that we have to offer students is crucial. Thanks to the work of multiple partners, you now have access to a booklet called, "When You Are Ready."
This resource is for students who have experienced some form or sexual misconduct.
When to Use this Booklet:
On that day when a UIC student discloses they have experienced some form of sexual assault, this booklet is there for both of you. It helps you to guide the student through a conversation and it informs the student of their rights, resources, and options. After the discussion, please share the booklet, with the student, for future reference.
Please note: The When You are Ready Guide does not replace any of the state or UIC directives for Mandated Reporters. This is a resource tool for students.
How to Use this Resource:
- In the moment, students may feel overwhelmed, so encourage them to give the booklet (PDF link) to a trusted friend or family member to read.
- place guide directly on your website or link to DOS or Wellness Center websites where this resource will be housed.
- share attached PDF with staff for distribution to students
- Share link with students to promote 24/7 access and accommodate those with visual or other hidden challenges.
Best to you all,
Carol
