FOR ADVISORS’ INFORMATION: New Minor in UIC Business: Leadership
UIC Business is offering a new minor in Leadership available to undergraduate students at UIC.
As the demand for leadership skills grows in today’s economy, students may find an additional benefit by adding a minor in leadership as they approach the job market and in their future careers. The minor is unique as all required and elective courses combine experiential learning and theoretical knowledge. The course in organizational behavior provides foundational knowledge while the leadership course integrates coverage of leadership theories with the opportunity for students to build their leadership readiness by developing a plan to address their strengths and weaknesses. The professional presence course provides experiential group learning activities in relationship building, problem-solving, and decision making using improvisational theatre techniques. In addition, one course is chosen from three electives where human resource management, conflict resolution, or consulting skills are developed and emphasized. Together, the coursework is designed to offer a distinctive preparation in leadership knowledge and skills to both CBA students and non-CBA students. The minor will be included on students’ transcripts and enhance their qualifications with potential employers as they compete for jobs upon graduation.
