Information for Advisors – Fall Semester
Purpose of Early Alerts Heading link
The purpose of early alerts is to provide a means of communication between faculty, students, and advisors so that:
- Students can address issues promptly enough in the semester to hopefully prevent serious consequences;
- Advisors can assist students in navigating their academic experience, and;
- Advisors can make referrals to campus resources, etc.

We are aware that as an advisor this term, you have heard about how instructors have made significant changes to course delivery and may be using varied instructional methods for course delivery. Early Alerts remain essential, especially in such a unique time; however, we also understand that our current conditions may change how you respond to alerts this term. Information has been provided along with your directions for alert management; however, we also wanted to ensure that you have at hand some information related to attendance and course concerns. The Early Alerts Implementation Working Group has provided those who get alerts for their students with a downloadable information guide:
Instructional Videos for Accessing and Managing Early Alerts in iAdvise Heading link
Our iAdvise Project Team have produced videos for accessing iAlert, the alerting component of iAdvise, which is powering Early Alerts. Advisors will be able to access their alerts in real time.
Early Alerts Dates and Deadlines Heading link
Alerts are delivered in real time and are viewable in iAdvise. For Fall 2020 the entry windows are:
First-Year Seminar Alerts
- Alerts will be deployed and entered between Wednesday, September 8th through Wednesday, September 15th
First-Year Writing Program and Foreign Language Courses
- Fall 2020 Alerts entry will begin on Monday, September 13th and Early Alerts are due by Monday, September 20th for English and foreign language faculty to allow for grading time.
Math and Chemistry Courses
- For Fall 2020 instructors of CHEM 101, 122, 124, 232, and MATH 090, 110, 118, 121, 125, 165 180, 181, 210, 220, STAT 101, and STAT 130 alerts open on Monday, September 13th and end on Friday, October 15th on the following schedule:
- MATH 090: Monday, September 13th – Friday, September 24th (Week 4 through Week 5)
- MATH 105: Monday, September 27th – Friday, October 8th (Week 6 through Week 7)
- MATH 110: Monday, September 27th – Friday, October 8th (Week 6 through Week 7)
- MATH 121: Monday, September 27th – Friday, October 8th (Week 6 through Week 7)
- MATH 125: Monday, September 27th – Friday, October 8th (Week 6 through Week 7)
- MATH 160: Monday, September 27th – Friday, October 8th (Week 6 through Week 7)
- MATH 165: Monday, September 27th – Friday, October 8th (Week 6 through Week 7)
- MATH 170: Monday, September 13th – Friday, September 24th (Week 4 through Week 5)

PHYS 141 Alerts
- Fall 2020 alerts for PHYS 141 will be completed in two batches, one in Week 5 after the first quiz and one in Week 8 after the first exam.
Business Core Alerts
- Spring 2020 alerts for the Business Core courses (ACTG 210 & 211; BA 200; FIN 301 & 302; IDS 200, 270 & 355; MGMT 340 & 350; and MKTG 360) will begin on Monday, September 13th and end on Friday, October 8th.
