6. SHARE WITH STUDENTS—New General Education course Art 382/480: Topics in Art: Prison Aesthetics and Policy. No prerequisites.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT—UARC sponsored Campus Advocacy Network Workshops (5/26): CAN will be providing information on their resources and services – once on the east campus and once on the west campus!
Now that you may have been trained at one of our UARC sponsored "Know Your IX" trainings for advisors or you may have attended one of the campus events held during this April's Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the UARC is pleased to sponsor a special workshop with the Campus Advocacy Network to learn about the resources and services they provide. Rachel Caidor and Dan Cairo from the Campus Advocacy Network will spend 1.5 hours with advisors working through topics including what an advocate is, confidentiality and the role of an advocate, how advocate services work, how to refer students to CAN for services, what advisors should expect when doing a referral, CAN's efforts to make UIC a safer community, etc.
The workshops will be held on May 26th - one on the east campus and one on the west campus. Please RSVP by May 20th at http://go.uic.edu/uarccanworkshoprsvp.

2. FOR YOUR INFORMATION—ALEKS Math Placement Fall 2015 Update
UIC will no longer pay for learning modules or math placement test retakes for students in placing in Math 075/090/118; however, students will still have the opportunity to take the test twice.
Students can take the ALEKS (Math) test twice. There will be a charge for the second test. The student must pay $30 for the learning module. Students placing in Math 075/090/118 will have access after reaching 70% mastery of the Learning Module and can retake the test after paying $10. Students placing in Math 121/125/165 or STAT 101 are also required to pay the $30 for the learning module but will have access to the retake by paying the $10.00 fee without reaching a specific mastery level.

3. SAVE THE DATE —SSI Credit Accumulation Initiative Information Sessions (5/20 and 5/21)
The SSI Credit Accumulation Initiative will be holding two informational sessions on May 20 and May 21 at 3:00 pm. The location is to be announced.
Advisors, please plan to attend one of the sessions.

4. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT—ILACADA 2015 Conference (5/22) at UIUC
If you have not already registered, there is still time to consider attending the 4th Annual ILACADA Annual Conference at the iHotel on May 21/22.

5. SHARE WITH STUDENTS—2015 GPPA Chicago-Kent Sophomore Entry (6/1 deadline) –The Office of Special Scholarship Program is seeking applications for the GPPA Kent College of Law program. Students who are completing their freshman year and going into the sophomore year at UIC can apply.

Students in the program must complete a bachelor's degree at UIC prior to entering the Chicago-Kent College of Law.
The IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law's history dates to 1888. The law school developed from the merger of the Chicago College of Law and the Kent College of Law. A 1969 merger made it part of the Illinois Institute of Technology. The law school has earned many accolades including being ranked 6th nationally in Trial Advocacy and 10th in Intellectual Property by U.S. News & World Report (March 2014). 6. SHARE WITH STUDENTS—New General Education course Art 382/480: Topics in Art: Prison Aesthetics and Policy. No prerequisites.
Prison Aesthetics and Policy will be exciting for students who want to learn more about prisons, those engaged in related research, and art or theater students who want to apply their aesthetic skills to new problems. The class will spend time analyzing sensory experiences, proposing new ways to monitor prisons, and learning from those who enact and experience prison policy. The class combines interactive learning, dialogue, field trips and guest lectures. Formerly incarcerated people and family members will participate in some of the projects.
This class would be especially interesting for students from CLJ, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Social Work, Media Studies, Public Health, Neuroscience, Theater and Music, African American Studies, Latin American Students, and MUSE.
