SHARE WITH STUDENTS: Study Abroad Frederick Douglass Fellowship

On behalf of the Study Abroad Office, following is information on an exciting new program and fellowship. Download the flyers on the Frederick Douglass Fellowship Flyer and the CIEE London Summer Program.

Colleagues:

One of our study abroad academic consortium partners, The Council on International Educational Exchange [CIEE], and The Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions have created a new diversity fellowship. It includes a 4 week study abroad session in London, during Summer 2017, to earn 3 credits [the syllabus is attached].  The Fellowship will cover 100% of tuition, fees, housing, and airfare.

This is a highly competitive award – only ten students nationwide will be selected from Minority Serving Institutions.  The students will study together as a cohort.  The attached flier describes the application process.  You’ll see that the Penn Center is requiring a robust packet of materials. The Study Abroad Office will be coordinating the collection of complete application packets and working with the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs to vet applications. Please note that there is a very early deadline – September 15th.

If subsequently selected by the Penn Center for the fellowship, this is a great opportunity for a UIC student to be recognized for their excellence and enhance their learning through a fully paid academic experience abroad.  Please share this message with colleagues.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  A wider distribution of this message will go out at the start of the Fall term.

Regards,
