Online GenEd: Creative Arts Course

Art History II: History of World Art and the Built Environment (AH 111)

Professor: Hannah Higgins

Art History offers a global history of art, architecture, and visual culture since the 1400s.

Organized around five grids, the course is a sequence of historical units that bring us to the present: Type, Screen, Ledger, Box and Network. Together, these five forms trace a history of how trade and empire building, artistic realism and lens technologies, moveable type and mass literacy, the industrial revolution and digital technologies have transformed and been transformed by the arts broadly conceived.

This Creative Arts GenEd class will stimulate your curiosity and provide you with enough understanding of world art to enter virtually any art museum anywhere with confidence.

This course is anĀ online course, with the option of in person discussion sections. In addition to the online lectures that can be viewed on any device, UIC students may choose from either brick-n-mortar or online discussion formats. It is intended for all undergraduates in the university community.
