PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: REMINDER – ILACADA Fall 2017 Drive-In Conference – Proposals due next Friday June 30th!

OAD will be providing transportation to the ILACADA Annual Conference on Friday, September 22nd - please let Joey (jvolpe@uic.edu) know if you're interested in going with the OAD group! The Call for Proposals for the 2017 ILACADA Annual Conference is now open!  The theme for this year’s conference is, Advising: The Root of Student Success.  Submissions on any and all topics are welcome, but topics focused on the conference theme are preferred.

Our keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Dr. Teresa Garate, President and CEO of Anixter Center in Chicago, IL.  Dr. Garate is a recognized authority and advocate in the fields of disabilities, education, human services and public health and has an extensive background in government, nonprofit and private sectors.

Who Should Submit a Proposal:

We encourage novice as well as experienced presenters to submit a proposal. Advisors, administrators, faculty, counselors, career development specialists, researchers, and graduate students are all welcome to submit proposals. If you have advanced techniques or proven practices to share that address higher education’s academic advising needs, please consider submitting a proposal.

Session proposals will be accepted electronically.  Click here to submit your 2017 ILACADA Conference session proposal.  Session proposal should include the name(s) of presenter(s), institution, e-mail, phone number, along with title and abstract and proposal of the session.  For more information on creating a presentation proposal and the evaluation criteria used by the reviewers, please click here to view the NACADA tutorial guide.

Session Formats:

Presentation: One-hour session that can include lecture, demonstrations, and/or participant discussion about topics relevant to the field of academic advising.

Panel Discussion: One-hour panel session where speakers address a specific advising topic each from their own perspective. Panel sessions are highly interactive with panelists representing multiple points of view from different institutions. Time is allowed for audience input and questions.

Important Deadlines:

  • June 30, 2017 – Proposal submissions due
  • Week of August 7, 2017 – All potential presenters will be notified of their proposal status
  • June 2017 – Conference registration opens
