PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: NACADA Region 5 Conference early registration ends Wednesday 3/21!

Following is a message from the NACADA Region 5 Conference Chairs with some great info on this year’s conference. If you’re planning on going to Region 5, let Joey know (!

Hello Great Lakes Region Members!

Our NACADA Regional Conference will be held this year in Columbus, OH on April 11 -13, 2018. This message will provide you with some general information about the conference.

The theme of the conference this year is – “The Art of Advising.” This theme was selected because the Hyatt Regency Hotel, the site of the conference, is located in the heart Short North District, an area known for its art galleries, restaurants, and creative endeavors. The Hyatt is also within two blocks of the Arena District, another great destination full of restaurants and clubs.

The conference will have 4 pre-conference workshops on Wednesday, April 11. We have 54 conference sessions scheduled on Thursday through Friday at noon.

With our theme of Art of Advising, we have decided to be creative and shake-up the usual conference schedule.

On Wednesday night, we will have the Welcome Reception. Desserts and a coffee bar will be available, as well as a cash bar. Please wear your alumni school colors for Alumni Spirit Night. Instead of a traditional “wear your school colors” day, based on where you work, we’ll wear our school colors from our undergraduate or graduate institutions. This will you help identify alumni from your school and participate in school photos and activities during the reception.

Our Thursday morning keynote will be given by the distinguished Dr. Wendy Troxel. Her topic is “The Art of Research: Finding the Fun in the Scholarship of Advising.”

Keeping with the spirit of creativity, the state and province meetings are scheduled before lunch on Thursday. This will give you the opportunity to plan on attending lunch with colleagues from your state or province.  To help you plan lunch, dinner, and any additional outings, Experience Columbus will have a staffed table at the conference site to help you consider lunch, dinner, and entertainment options.

Conference registration for NACADA members is $140 before March 21 and $190 after that date. By following the registration link, information about student/retirees and non-NACADA members fees is also provided.
Travel information is also available on the Conference website.

Currently the hotel has notified us that the rooms we reserved are half full. We will keep you informed of other hotel options as we get closer to the event.

If you have questions, please contact us, the Co-Chairs. From all of the Great Lakes Region planning committee and leadership, we look forward to seeing you in Columbus, OH!
