SHARE WITH STUDENTS: Extra tutoring support through AAMP and GLAS Gen Eds – please refer students!

Advisors, especially New Student Orientation Advisors, please recommend two great opportunities below to incoming students:

The ASIAN AMERICAN MENTOR PROGRAM (AAMP) is a unique program designed specifically to support Asian American or Pacific Islander-identified incoming students at UIC by connecting them to a peer mentor.

Students may participate in Summer AAMP through Summer College and get connected early. We are especially trying to connect to students taking Summer Enrichment Writing or Math: http://summercollege.uic.edu/asian-american-mentor-program-aamp/

and/or Fall AAMP:

Fall AAMP provides extra tutoring and academic support for students who were eligible for Summer College and placed into preparatory classes for English, Math, or Chemistry. We would like to connect with them in the fall especially if they did not participate in Summer College.

AAMP students enroll in a one-credit Global Asian Studies seminar, GLAS 105. To join Fall AAMP, students should first fill out an application at: go.uic.edu/aamp. Then they will receive an override to enroll in the class that fits their schedule.

Please help encourage students to join AAMP to build their academic success and get connected to a vibrant community at UIC. For questions or information, please contact Jeff Alton at jalton@uic.edu.

GLOBAL ASIAN STUDIES GEN ED courses GLAS 100 (Intro to Global Asian Studies) and GLAS 120 (Intro to Asian American Studies) also provide embedded writing tutoring for students. They are uniquely designed to serve students who are looking for extra writing support. For questions or information, please contact Prof. Anna Guevarra at guevarra@uic.edu.

These two programs are part of the UIC Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Initiative.
