PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Associate Director of Advising Development position available – closes June 18th!

The Office of Advising Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to fill the role of Associate Director. This position supports the area of advising development as part of student success initiatives. The Associate Director will provide management of initiatives, programs, training, and development to support the activities and needs of the integrated planning and advising system (iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict), the integration of advising, advising training and professional development and advising-based program development. This position operates as an advisor to the Assistant Vice Provost for Advising Development. Supervises professional and student staff members working on advising development.

Duties include:

Integrated Planning and Advising System

  • Responsible for initial day-to-day needs for implementation of iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict in partnership with the Assistant Vice Provost;
  • Manages implementation needs for advising in partnership with the Assistant Vice Provost;
  • Responsible for the campus level maintenance of iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict;
  • Organize regular meetings of advisors and advising supervisors to maintain optimum usage of iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict;
  • Regular assessment and reporting on advising and students from iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict;
  • Participate in the maintenance of external relationships with advising professionals on campus, locally, and nationwide in the interest of iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict and the integration of the advising community;
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and revision of campus advising policies and procedures;
  • Organize and perform training and professional development on IPAS;
  • Interface with campus and vendor representatives to resolve issues, strategically advise the Assistant Vice Provost for planning technology releases;
  • Advise the Assistant Vice Provost on strategic needs for advising and advisors related to iAdvise/iAlert/iPredict;

Advising Development:

  • Lead advising professional development and training planning;
  • Coordinate professional development committee for planning;
  • Coordinate campus-level professional development activities such as Advising Summit and Advisor Week in partnership with professional development committee;
  • Advise the Assistant Vice Provost on strategic needs for advising and advisors related to training and professional development;
  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities of advising-related retention and student success strategies;
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

Master’s degree required. A minimum of five years of experience in advising or higher education required, preferably in undergraduate education.

Experience in creating and leading professional development workshops, program development, and advising administration preferred.

Excellent leadership, written communication and public speaking skills. Excellent interpersonal skills; strong analytical, organizational, and management skills; demonstrated ability to work with confidential and sensitive material. Strong verbal and written communication skills to maintain effective working relationships with all partners.
