PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Fall 2015 Advising Summit Presentations available on Summit web page.

 

For those of you who attended the Fall 2015 Advising Summit, you should have received an email providing you with information from the Summit and an opportunity to provide feedback.

For all who were unable to attend the Summit on November 6th, the Advising Summits page has been updated and all of the presentations are available for download. Please keep in mind that for the presentation on the research on UIC First Generation Students, downloading that presentation is restricted to those advisors, faculty, and staff on the advising listserv. If you would like access to that presentation and you cannot currently download it, please contact Joey Volpe (jvolpe@uic.edu) to obtain access.

Specially designed course that introduces and provides practice in special topics related to reading, writing, learning, and quantitative reasoning strategies. Promotes positive study techniques that can be applied throughout the semester.

Courses that Boost Communication Skills!

ASP 050: English Communication Skills in Reading, Writing and Speaking for English as a Second Language Students.  ASP 050 is a course designed to help students develop strong English communication skills through weekly reading and writing exercises that include studying grammar, vocabulary and topics pertaining to American culture.  3 Hours

ASP 055:  Communication Skills for International Graduate Students. This course develops and increases listening/speaking fluency for English as a Second Language students.

 ASP 092:  Vocabulary Enrichment (or Vocabulary Bootcamp!)

Are you preparing for a standardized test or just hoping to impress people with your vocabulary?  ASP 092 is an eight-week intensive course for students who want to expand their vocabulary for greater facility in reading comprehension, writing skills and standardized tests preparation.  Register for this class today. ASP 095: Academic & Professional Writing for International Graduate Students focuses on formal, academic styles and advanced grammar for English as a Second Language upper level undergrads, grads, & visiting scholars.  3 Hours

The Wellness Center is hiring a student worker to be a Presenter and General Office Aide. Candidates must be a registered undergraduate.

Job Description: Presenter and General Office Aide: Work on campus! Help the UIC Wellness Center educate UIC students about healthier living! If you’re seeking a degree in a healthcare field, education, or psychology this job is a great opportunity to learn how to convey information to an audience. Candidates in this position will present Wellness Center workshops on a variety of health education topics including: safe sex, responsible drinking, nutrition, stress management, women’s health, and men’s health. The duties of this positon also include working in the center itself, doing general office tasks (answering phones, helping students who walk into the center, and assisting with implementing center programs. Hours: 10-15 a week. Location: UIC Wellness Center 750 S. Halsted Street, Chicago, IL 60607.

Qualifications: The candidate for this position must be a registered UIC undergraduate. The preferred candidate will have good writing and communication skills, be reliable, responsible, detail oriented, and be able to work independently or as part of a team.

Instructors will be able to help with time management, test preparation, stress, and test anxiety. Drop in for up to 30 minutes during the final week of classes.
