PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - UARC Brown Bag Follow-Up to NACADA Webinar "Advising Needs of UIC's First Generation Students" THIS WEDNESDAY (9-23-15)

 

Were you able to view the NACADA Webinar from last Wednesday "Advising Needs of First Generation Students: NACADA Leaders Share Their Experiences"?

Join us for a campus-based discussion about advising first generation students at UIC.

The framing question of our discussion: "What are the advising needs of UIC's first generation students? What are we currently doing on campus to meet those needs?"

SHARE WITH STUDENTS/FOR ADVISORS' INFORMATION: Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Nominations being accepted until 10-2-15

 

The Office of Special Scholarship Programs invites you to nominate students:Greetings!
Each year, every four-year degree-granting higher education institution in Illinois chooses ONE senior to receive the prestigious Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award and becomes a Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy. Laureates are honored for their leadership, overall excellence in both curricular and co-curricular activities, and service in pursuit of the betterment of humanity.  Nominations are due by Friday, October 2.

As a faculty/staff member I invite you to nominate one or more graduating seniors who have demonstrated these qualities. Students may also self-nominate. All applications require at least one letter of nomination along with a short essay from the students and a resume.  If you would like to nominate a student, please notify him/her and request that the student visit this website https://uic.academicworks.com/opportunities/1709
and respond to the questions asked as well as upload YOUR name and email address. You will then receive an email message asking you to upload your letter.  Student and faculty information must be entered and uploaded by Friday, October 2.

The UIC Lincoln Student Laureate will be invited and required to attend a ceremony on November 7, 2015 in the House of Representatives of the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois. Each of the Student Laureates will receive a Lincoln Academy Medallion and a financial award of $1000.

UARC REQUEST: Are you going to NACADA's upcoming Annual Conference? Let other UIC attendees know!

 

It's that time again - NACADA is hosting its annual conference in a few weeks!Just as it's getting cool outside in Chicago, some members of our advising community are heading out to warmer weather for a great experience in advising - NACADA 39th Annual Conference - What Happens in Advising Stays with Students being hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada October 4th through the 7th.

Are you attending? Other UIC advisors and staff will be going and UARC wants to connect you!

Please let us know by Friday, October 2nd if you will be going to Las Vegas so that we can ensure that others know you'll be there. Strategizing about sessions is a great way to maximize conference attendance with an agenda as packed as this one!
