ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – ILACADA Professional Development Grant applications due this Friday, August 7th!
The Illinois Academic Advising Association (ILACADA) is proud to support professional development activities on college campuses throughout the state through professional development grants. Grant applicants must be members of ILACADA and the application needs to include the promotion of ILACADA membership as a goal. Grant dollars cannot be used to support the grant applicant?s attendance at a conference or travel to a conference.
The application must include the following and will be submitted in a word document format including the contact information for the applicant:
-Brief description of the program including a statement how it relates to advising and how it will benefit participants.
-Resources that will be used.
-Person or persons taking responsibility for planning the event.
-Description of event
-Materials being used
-Timeline including date of the event or events.
-Budget and other sources of support

2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – RSVP AVAILABLE for STUDY ABROAD Workshop for Advisors sponsored by SAO and UARC on 8/10 and 8/12.
The Study Abroad Office will offer a summer workshop focusing on pedagogy, curriculum integration, and best practice in the field of international education. Intended outcomes for advisors include examples of the academic, personal, and career benefits of studying abroad, practical updates on SAO administrative protocols, and a study abroad advising toolbox for every type of learner to further UIC’s Student Success Initiative.
To accommodate advisors' schedules, the workshop will be held twice:
Monday, August 10th: 9:00 am -10:30am
Location: Student Center East, Fort Dearborn Room
Wednesday, August 12th: 9:00 am – 10:30 am
Location: TBA – East Campus
Light breakfast will be served.

3. NETWORKING EVENT – UARC’S Advisors Celebrate Summer BBQ at Ph.D. Pub on 8/6. RSVP by Tuesday, 8/4 at noon!
You’ve worked hard this summer so come out and celebrate with other advisors on August 6th at Ph.D. Pub. – our very own Freedom Nguyen from the College of Business Administration will be doing the grilling. Freedom has professional cooking skills so don’t miss out!

Their patio is a great space to relax and enjoy time with your fellow advisors – and it’s covered so it’s a go whether it’s rain or shine (but it’s going to be sunny)!
And if the BBQ won’t work for you stay tuned for some other events coming up in August and September - like a trip to Millennium Park for one of the after work concerts…
4. UARC ADVISING WEEKLY UPDATES Web Submissions
The UARC Weekly Update Subcommittee is pleased to provide you with an easier way to submit your news/announcements and upcoming events so that UARC can share them with advisors. UARC Advising Weekly Updates will normally be sent on Fridays each week (although more frequently if the need allows), so please keep that in mind as you plan to advertise your events or share your news with the advising community.
