DHD 205: Disability, Race, Class and Gender
3:30 - 4:45 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays Gen Ed Course: Individual and Society
This course invites students to engage in a critical dialogue around disability, race, class and gender through an intersectional and interdisciplinary frame of analysis.
DHD 406: Disability and Work
3:30 - 6:15 pm, Tuesdays
Disability and Work explores the complex relationship between disability and work within the U.S. Student will learn about debates and interventions surrounding the role, ability and capability of people with disabilities to work.
DHD 408: Disability Through the Lifecourse
3:00 - 5:45 pm, Wednesdays
The course analyzes disability issues from a life course perspective. Learn how disability is regulated by a generational system. Explore the experiences and needs of individuals with disabilities in all life stages from birth to death. Evaluate the supports and policies that impact individuals with disabilities and their families over the life course.
DHD 494: Special Topics in Mental Health, Asian Americans, and Community Engagement
3:00 - 5:45 pm, Mondays
In partnership with Chicago’s Asian American communities and using community-engagement methodologies, the course takes an interdisciplinary approach to taboo-related mental health issues facing Asian Americans. Students will be able to talk with, question, and learn from the instructor and community activists about stigma, lived mental health experiences, disparity issues, and micro- and macro-level perspectives.
Also for the first time, DHD 440 has been added to the spring schedule.
DHD 440: Introduction to Assistive Technology: Principles and Practice
ONLINE
Principles and exemplary practice of assistive technology used by individuals with disabilities, including augmentative communication, seating, mobility, computer access, environmental control, home modifications, and worksite modifications
