POSITION AVAILABLE: Associate Director, Disability Resource Center

The Disability Resource Center at UIC seeks a full-time Associate Director to provide primary support to the Director in developing, implementing, and coordinating services and programs provided to by the Center; whose mission is to ascertain and provide reasonable accommodations for the Campus' disabled population with access to facilities, learning and cultural enrichment.

Duties:

Consultation and Advisement

Contribute authoritative, detailed professional and technical knowledge and expertise of best practices in the field of student disability services and Higher Education.

Serve as the primary advisor to the director regarding overall programs, management and operations of the DRC with major program development, supervision, policy-making and disability and higher education related State/Federal Law compliance.

Liaise with campus groups and university departments, including faculty and staff; represent the Director on committees.

Work with DRC sections to develop policy recommendations for the Director.

Administration and Operations

Exercise direct authority for development and administration of programs for students with disabilities registered at the DRC, and special project associated with other Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change within the Office of Diversity.

Assist with the management of resources, supervision and determination of staff functions and training, and setting operating policies for the DRC.

Review and initiate programs and operations that commit office resources; establish policies relating to utilization of office resources.

Coordinate and facilitate organizational, financial, programming, and physical planning for the Department.

Collaborate on special projects associated with other Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change within the Office for Diversity.

May directly supervise sections of the DRC with responsibility for setting and implementing operational policies and procedures for handling daily administrative matters, such as finances, facilities, and staffing.

Direct day-to-day operations of the DRC in the Director’s absence.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in disability studies, special education, or related social services with a focus on disability is required. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years experience as a case manager or in a student advocacy position; working directly with adults with disabilities in an academic setting. Thorough knowledge of disability-related laws and regulations. Strong verbal and written communication skills; analytical, organizational and Microsoft Office skills.
