ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – RSVP AVAILABLE for STUDY ABROAD Workshop for Advisors sponsored by SAO and UARC on 8/10 and 8/12.
The Study Abroad Office will offer a summer workshop focusing on pedagogy, curriculum integration, and best practice in the field of international education. Intended outcomes for advisors include examples of the academic, personal, and career benefits of studying abroad, practical updates on SAO administrative protocols, and a study abroad advising toolbox for every type of learner to further UIC’s Student Success Initiative.

To accommodate advisors’ schedules, the workshop will be held twice:
Monday, August 10th: 9:00 am -10:30am
Location: TBA – East Campus

Wednesday, August 12th: 9:00 am – 10:30 am
Location: TBA – East Campus

Assistant Director of Administrative Process
Academic Advising Center

INTERNAL SEARCH

As a member of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Academic Advising Center, the Assistant Director of Administrative Process is responsible for the day-to-day operations of advisor and student enacted application of administrative and educational policy. In addition to maintaining materials related to College and university policies and the procedures necessary to carry out policies, the Assistant Director trains new advising staff and provides updates to continuing advising staff regarding policies and procedures. The position oversees and serves as a resource for general advising staff, including regular supervisory meetings and attention to on-going training and development needs. In addition, the Assistant Director serves as an academic advisor, engaging undergraduate students in promoting their academic, professional, and overall development from their orientation to graduation. Primarily in individual appointments with students in the advisor’s assigned cohort, the Assistant Director evaluates students’ degree progress/eligibility and educates and provides guidance on degree requirements and programs, academic and professional planning, College and University policies and procedures, course registration and selection, and available University resources and opportunities.

Duties:
• Serves as a cohort advisor for the undergraduate student population, in evaluating students’ degree progress/eligibility, educating and providing direction and guidance on degree requirements.
• Provides guidance and direction to undergraduate students regarding academic and professional planning.
• Provides guidance regarding University and College policies and procedures, course registration and selection, along with available University resources and opportunities.
• Identifies current and potential needs of students.
• Ensures the accuracy of advisor enacted application of university and college academic and administrative policy including but not limited to Credit/No-Credit, GPA Recalculation(s), Registration Revisions, University Withdrawals, Dean’s List, Retroactive Credits for Foreign Language, etc.
• Maintains related materials, updating as needed.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, social work or a related field. Related Master’s Degree preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in academic advising in an institution of higher education/learning.
• Prior experience in advising and administration in; student enrollment life cycle, course articulation, degree planning, FERPA, student development theory, support of diverse student populations.
• Excellent communication, presentation, organization and computer/pc skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with related applications and software.

Assistant Director of Cohort Advising

As a member of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Academic Advising Center, the Assistant Director of Cohort Advising and Course Articulation is responsible for the day-to-day operations of cohort advisor assignments and cohort project management, and also transfer course articulation. The Assistant Director is responsible for training new advising staff on transfer course articulation and use of the Degree Audit System, and providing updates to continuing advising staff. This position oversees and serves as a resource for general advising staff, including regular supervisory meetings and attention to on-going training and development needs. In addition, the Assistant Director serves as an academic advisor, engaging undergraduate students in promoting their academic, professional, and overall development from their orientation to graduation. Primarily in individual appointments with students in the advisor’s assigned cohort, the Assistant Director evaluates students’ degree progress/eligibility and educates and provides guidance on degree requirements and programs, academic and professional planning, College and University policies and procedures, course registration and selection, and available University resources and opportunities.

Duties:

• Coordinates and approves general and departmental course articulations, serving as the liaison to the Transfer Articulation Degree Audit Office.
• Maintains related materials (print and online), updating as needed.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, social work or a related field. Related Master’s Degree preferred.

Assistant Director of Departmental Advising

As a member of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Academic Advising Center, the Assistant Director of Department Advising and Career Development oversees advising services provided by departmental advising, and also career development and major exploration programming and academic advising strategies. This work includes the identification of student needs, facilitation of partnerships both on and off campus, and the creation and facilitation of both active and passive initiatives for undergraduate students. The position oversees and serves as a resource for departmental and internship advising staff, including regular supervisory meetings and attention to on-going training and development needs. In addition, the Assistant Director serves as an academic advisor, should a department present a need. When needed, this position evaluates students’ major/curriculum/minor progress and eligibility, and educates and provides guidance on programs and degree requirements, academic and professional planning, College and departmental policies and procedures, course registration and selection, and available University resources and opportunities. When needed, the Assistant Director is responsible for evaluating transfer and study abroad courses for major/curriculum/minor credit and certifying students’ completion of major/curriculum/minor requirements for graduation.

Duties:
• Collaborates with academic departments and the Assistant Dean for Educational Policy and Academic Programs regarding the maintenance and publication of the four-year advising plans.
• Serves as an advisor for the undergraduate student population, in evaluating students’ degree progress/eligibility, educating and providing direction and guidance on degree requirements.
• Provides guidance and direction to undergraduate students regarding academic and professional planning.
• Provides guidance regarding University and College policies and procedures, course registration and selection, along with available University resources and opportunities.
• Identifies current and potential needs of students.
• Intervenes and refers students to resources in the University community as appropriate. Exercises professional discretion and judgment to trouble-shoot issues and problems as they arise.
• Guides students through the petition process for exceptions to academic policies.
• Oversees and supports departmental advisors and internship advisor under the direction of the Director, Academic Advising Center. Assists with training as needed with respect to academic and administrative policy and procedures.
• Works with current and former internship providers to maintain and create internship pipelines.
• Collaborates with campus career development offices, including but not limited to: Office of Career Services, LAS Director of Alumni Relations and LAS Director of Pre-Professional Advising.
• Develops programing and web presence for LAS undergraduate students with respect to career development and major exploration.
• Maintains related materials (print and online), updating as needed.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
