8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Honors College Open House/Advisor Week Kick-Off Breakfast for UIC Advisors
LOCATION: Honors College (Room 114, Burnham Hall) The Honors College is pleased to host their annual spring open house for UIC advisors. Please enjoy a warm coffee, a lovely pastry, and conversation with the Honors College staff. This is a perfect way to kick off Advisor Week, get energized to start your day, and catch up with advisors across campus!

10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. - ADVISOR CONFERENCE -with lunch on your own.
LOCATION: B21 Burnham Hall (Honors College, Basement Level) This special three session mini-conference is designed to be UIC staff led presentations with our theme of identity.

10:30 - 11:30 "Creating a Global Community: Culture, Compassion, and Advising" Presenter: Ashley Stone (AAAN) This interactive workshop will provide advisors with an opportunity explore the relationship between their social identities and their professional roles. Participants will reflect critically about how they navigate their identities as they advise students. In addition, advisors will be provided with tools that support them in acknowledging and embracing the diversity of UIC's student population.

11:30 - 12:30 "Advising Undocumented Students"
Presenter: Jennifer Juarez (LARES)
Presenter will discuss how UIC professionals can tailor their services to address the needs of undocumented students- from policies, enrollment, financial aid, to academic advising and career planning- to ensure that undocumented students have a successful college experience at UIC.

12:30 - 1:30 LUNCH ON YOUR OWN

1:30 - 2:30 "Making Decisions: Our Students, Ourselves" Presenter: Nick Ardinger (Campus Housing) Everyone wants to do their jobs better, but who has time to read all the great books out there? This session will give you a working knowledge of the main insights of Chip & Dan Heath¹s latest book _Decisive: How to make better choices in life and work. Chock full of helpful tips, tricks, advice and mnemonics, it¹s a great resource for aiding in making one¹s own decisions and in coaching others to understand how to better approach the decisions they face. And let¹s face it, advisors spend a lot of time helping others make decisions.

Want a special opportunity to use the climbing wall? Feel like you need to stretch your muscles? Need to relax and have some recreational fun? The Campus Recreation Center wants to show its appreciation for all that advisors do by making the climbing wall available for you. As you know the recreation center is open all week for you to use the lazy river, the machines, and anything else available and open to you! As a follow-up to NACADA's recent webinar "Advising Strategies for Students on Academic Probation", we will be holding a Brown Bag open discussion to talk through important issues/questions raised in the webinar as well as discuss what initiatives are already in place at UIC to support students experiencing academic difficulty. Their presentation will focus on advising as a means to encourage student engagement and how that intersects with readiness for scholarship applications. A variety of scholarships will be introduced and panelists will offer tips from their experience advising students to apply for scholarships. Student essay writing and interviewing tips will be discussed.

12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. - "Digital Distractions: College Students in the 21st Century" Tuesday/Thursday Topics Advisor Common Reading Group with LIGHT LUNCH PROVIDED
LOCATION: Daley Library room 1-470 (located on the first floor in the northwest corner of the library) This advisor-to-advisor common reading discussion will focus on the topic of technology and millennial students as framed in the article, "Digital Distractions: College Students in the 21st Century," which is accessible at: www.go.uic.edu/AdvisorsTT. LOCATION: James Stukel Towers (JST) Training Room *There is a $20 fee for this class. All painting supplies are provided.
In response to a need for some after work relaxation and advisors' need to learn something new or reinvigorate their past hobbies, we are bringing painting back to campus. Do you want to learn to paint and enjoy time with other advisors? You get to take home your wonderful creation and relax and get to know other advisors or catch up with longtime colleagues.

2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT—2015 ILACADA Conference Call for Proposals
The annual ILACADA conference is coming up on May 22, 2015 at UIUC and to help make this a success we are now accepting concurrent session proposals. The ILACADA 2015 conference is an excellent opportunity for you to share your best practices, knowledge, and research related to the academic advising profession. Please consider submitting a concurrent session proposal for the upcoming conference related to the theme of Advising Innovation. Advising Innovation should be considered from a broad perspective and might encompass best practices related to advising theory, diversity and inclusion, advising targeted populations, transfer articulation, supporting students in need, academic probation, transition, high achieving students, collaborations across campus, technology, and social media to name a few ideas.

Some suggested concurrent session topics from last year’s conference include:
Assessment of advising
Assisting students facing academic probation or dismissal
Solution-focused counseling to advising

3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT — Sexual Misconduct and CLERY Training for Advisors this April/May – Dates TBD
**More information to come!** Please watch these announcements for information on a training/in-service provided by Rebecca Gordon of the Office of Access and Equity regarding the new expectations for staff related to cases of sexual misconduct and reporting. The trainings will be held in April, one on the east campus and one on the west campus and are designed for advisors.

4. SHARE WITH STUDENTS – America Needs You Fellowship Program applications due on March 31st. Panel discussion and networking event on March 31st from 3:30-4:30 in SCE.
We appreciate you passing this message on to your first-year students. Career Services and the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs has been working with America Needs You (ANY), a fellowship program for first generation college freshmen. The fellowship offers students a mentor coach, professional development grants, and access to prestigious companies in Chicago. On March 31st, ANY will be hosting professionals from various industries at a career panel from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Student Center East. Encourage interested students to attend as this should be an excellent networking opportunity.

The application deadline for this program is March 31st. Additional details are below. Samantha Robinson is the ANY Illinois Program Coordinator---please don't hesitate to reach out to her for any additional questions.

Applications are due March 31, 2015 and are open to first-generation college freshmen. Program participants receive:

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) is accepting applications for nine competitive scholarship awards available to students across all colleges and academic disciplines:

• Supporting Excellence Endowment (S.E.E.) Scholarship
• Dr. Thomas Beckham Memorial Scholarship
• VCSA Scholarship
• Gordon J. Flesch Memorial Scholarship
• University of Illinois Alumni Association Pier Scholar Award
• Rundgren Foundation Scholarship
• Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
• UIC Jim’s Original Scholarship
• Lorilyn Espique Aquino Fund
